What is HUIE?

Our main purpose is to promote diversity and inclusion in economics and encourage students from underrepresented groups to explore an interest in economics. We strive to collaborate with different organizations to bring together the tools and resources necessary to succeed in this endeavor.

Our Mission

To achieve our mission of encouraging diversity in economics, HUIE works towards the following four goals: promoting community, encouraging undergraduate involvement in economics research, and spearheading peer and graduate mentorship programs.

Community

Fostering a sense of community and providing support for students studying economics, especially those from underrepresented groups

Post-graduation

Debunking stereotypes about economics, exposing students to the diversity of economics research topics, and offering examples of career options available for economics students

Peer Mentorship

Complementing the department's advising programs by creating peer mentoring opportunities with a focus on empowering underrepresented groups

Graduate and Alumni Mentorship

Organizing mentorship opportunities between undergraduates and graduate students and alumni
